Lymphology

Lymphology

Lymphology is the branch of medicine which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies involving the lymphatic system. Our lymphatic system is made up of groups of lymph nodes placed in different locations (neck, chest, armpits, abdomen, groin) which act as filter, blocking harmful substances (bacteria, viruses for example) and thus providing an adequate immune system to infections in course in the organism.
When a lymphatic vessel becomes occluded or the lymph node becomes congested, circulation of the lymph is prevented, and it accumulates in the tissues causing swelling called lymphedema.
